John M. Tidd, Psy. D.
Clinical Psychologist

EDUCATION:
I received my B.A. in Psychology from The Ohio State University in 1984.  I received my Psy.D. from The Wright State University School of Psychology in 1988.  I have over twenty three years of experience working with individuals, couples, families, and groups.

FOCUS:
It’s easy to get lost in this world; to forget who we really are (our true essence), and what our true purpose is on this earth.  Therefore, my professional focus has been on providing an open, safe, collaborative, compassionate, and empathic place for people to clarify “Who am I, really?” and “Why am I here?” (life purpose).  I most enjoy working with adults seeking “their own truth,” adolescents and their families, and marital/couple relationships.

TRAINING:
I have received training in a variety of clinical settings:  From, a runaway shelter for adolescents, to a forensic center (minimum security prison), to a university student psychological services center, to an association for gifted children, to community mental health centers, to a children’s psychiatric hospital, to private practice (where I currently practice).I have also received ongoing clinical training in workshops and conferences (and life as well!).  My clinical training has emphasized the Psychology of the Self, including two years training under Anna Ornstein, M.D., an internationally respected psychiatrist.  Family and couple systems treatments have also been a significant part of my training.  I have also been fortunate to have a number of spiritual teachers throughout my journey.

GOAL:
Throughout my clinical and life experiences, my focus has been on respecting an individual’s innate “core wisdom,” freedom of choice, and identifying the patterns of relationship each person has developed within themselves and with others.  My intent with people is to identify painful, stifling patterns of relating to self and others and help free them to move toward more authentic, deep, and joyful patterns of connection.  My goal in psychotherapy is to provide a “wisdom mirror” reflecting my client's core wisdom, in order to facilitate growth toward clarity, truth, love, freedom, and happiness in all relationships.
